Family Prayer Request from my Wife

No pregnant mother is ever ready for the phone call which tells her; “We detected a problem on your ultrasound. We want to take a closer look.” I tried not to think about the “what ifs” and “maybes” as the days passed between the phone call and the appointment with the specialist. After detecting a small cyst on my sweet baby’s head, I received a high-definition ultrasound to be certain that every detail of my baby was developing normally.

As the scan reveals, our son is not quite normal. There are three “abnormal developments” in our darling baby; an enlarged kidney, two cysts in the brain, enlarging the chambers they reside in, and an enlarged ventricle which transports the cerebrospinal fluid to the spine. The doctor is confident that the cysts themselves pose no danger, as they often resolve themselves, but what does the rest of that mean? Enlarged developments of this nature often indicate one of three chromosomal abnormalities: Downs Syndrome, and Trisomies 13 & 18 (most babies with the latter two die before their 1st birthday).

After assuring the doctor that “termination of pregnancy” is not an option, we have weighed the risks of amniocentesis and have also ruled that test out. At this point, there is no certainty of our baby’s condition, just percentages and medical probabilities. Sometimes, these kinds of “abnormalities” just go away. Sometimes they continue to progress, ever increasing the likeliness of a genetic defect. But in either situation, nothing is certain until our son is born and they can draw his blood directly.

We will be going in for high-definition ultrasounds every 2-3 weeks to continue tracking the development of our son, and we will be praying for resolution. We know that our Omnipotent God is fully aware of the form and development of our beloved baby boy, and it is in His power to heal his little body if He wills. We know that no detail of our baby’s life is beyond reach and out of the all-wise plan of our good God (Psalm 139:13). Please join us is lifting up our darling baby boy in prayer.

  • Please pray with us for his mind to develop so that he can comprehend the goodness of the gospel.
  • Please pray with us that our son may love the Lord with all his heart, soul, mind and strength.
  • Please pray with us for his full recovery, so that we may marvel together with you at God’s gracious miracle of restored health.

We love you all and we greatly covet your ongoing prayers for us during this time. We will keep you updated as we learn more.

“Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.”  ~ Psalm 73:23-26 & 28

  1. Little sweet angel, he’s already a moving our hearts and we haven’t even met him yet! He is going to be an incredible guy, causing all of us to marvel at the goodness and power of our God! Love you guys, so proud of your eyes on Him in this journey~Praying for His perfect, wild and unexplainable peace to cover your hearts in the wait. You are glorifying Him even now as heaven looks down, cheering you on in pride!
    molly and paul too~

  2. We are praying for your family. His will be done is a hard thing to say when facing a situation like this, but I know you two have faith that can bring you through no matter the outcome. I pray that you will rest in the truth that God is good all the time

  3. I know of a baby whose in utero diagnosis, was as grim as they get…that he would be born without a functioning liver. His Christian parents refused the advised “termination” and we all prayed. He was born, completely healed and is an adult now. Praying for God’s grace in your situation, and a similar outcome! God can do anything!

  4. We love all five of you a lot, but our love is not even worthy to be called love in light of His love. May God keep you all strong and focused on Him, while He takes care of the probabilities.

  5. Bekah & Brent, as soon as we heard we started praying alongside you for miraculous healing that only our God is capable of. A worship song (and scripture) we sang yesterday is running through my head: “Excedingly and abundantly far above everything we could ask or think, He is able”. This spurred prayer for healing, and out of the “blood of the lamb and the word of our testimonies” I am believing for a continuation of supernatural healing for your sweet baby boy.

  6. We love your family so much, and will certainly continue to pray for you as you walk through all of this. We celebrated when you found out this is your 3rd son (even though Adi and I thought it would be a girl),and we will continue to celebrate his life with you. I’m really looking forward to meeting him…and finding out what great name you will give him. Meanwhile, you are both such an incredible inspiration and example of the grace and love of God – truly a blessing to my life, and I thank you for that.

  7. I am so blessed by your strength and faith in this uncertain time. In times like these it’s easy to get discouraged and overwhelmed with all the “what if’s”. Praying for Gods peace to fill your hearts, and for His mighty hand to be upon your little guy. We love you guys, and are here if you need anything. (If you and Brent want a night out just to be together, we would love to watch the boys for you.) -Hollie

  8. we will commit to praying for your baby and we will wait with eager anticipation as to what the Lord will do!!!!!!

  9. We will often be lifting up the request for God’s perfect will to be done in the life of baby Hisayasu. It is a comfort to know that our Sovereign God has chosen you Brent & Bekah to deal with this news. For we are confident that through whatever experience lies ahead, together you will glorify God and be drawn deeper into fellowship with Him. Titus & Silas will learn of His greatness as they hear your prayers on behalf of their little brother. Standing along side you in prayer – Michael & Carrie Hilliger

  12. Dear Bekah and Brent – God knows this third little child of yours and He knows each of you. Should the little fellow be disabled in any way, God knows that He could hardly have chosen a kinder and more compassionate Christian set of parents to care for him. Donda

  14. May these words bring you strength of mind and great peace in each new day….”There is none like the God of Jeshurun who rides the heavens to your HELP; the eternal God is a dwelling place and underneath are the Everlasting Arms.” Deut. 33:26&27a. –Debby Chiorino–(friend of Rainey!)

  15. Dear Brent and Bekah,
I went to high school with your mom and dad, Brent. Your mom just sent me this link. I wanted you to know I will be praying daily using your meaningful requests. What incredible parents your son will be blessed with, as well as wonderful grandparents. The power of prayer is amazing and I feel blessed to be joining so many others who are uniting their prayers for your son. Love, Jane
